My Dream School Teachers

Description

We all know that school sucked, right? Right. So to make it suck less, let’s add some awesome characters as teachers.

Headmaster = Mr. Briggs from Our Day Out:
If you managed to recognize him straight away, then you deserve MAJOR brownie points! This is Mr. Briggs, a character from this adaptation of a play called Our Day Out by Wily Russell. The short film is really interesting and funny. I dare say it changed my life and defiantly my outlook on school. It mainly shows a field trip of these school kids mainly through the perspective of these two school teachers, both polar opposites. Mrs. Kay is a seemingly cool teacher who all the students like, but she doesn’t actually care for the kids and doesn’t believe they can amount to anything. Whereas while Mr. Briggs isn’t well liked (by neither the students nor other teachers) and abit of a hard-arse, he cares deeply for the well-being of these students. Even with some of the more hopeless cases. He has to be one of my favourite characters of all time and has some great moments in the film. The whole thing is on YouTube if you wanna check it out, is really interesting but also very touching and funny. I highly recommend it. Oh and I know you may recognize him, that’s a VERY young Alun Armstong playing him (Brian Lane from New Tricks).

Art = Yen Sid from Fantasia, Kingdom of Hearts, Epic Mickey etc.:
I have such a fascination with this character. I guess the memories started early when I first watched Fantasia. Despite some of the creepy stuff in fantasia like the Night on Bald Mountain and all the literally hellish imagery, it didn’t bother or register with me. Yen Sid however scared the bejeezus out of me! The bit where he comes down looking furious at Mickey always made me curl up. Why? Cos it was like getting a bollacking off your parents! Satan and all his demons touring souls? Fuck that! If my mum comes in looking furious, then a Beelzebub and all his hellish instruments of death will be a picnic compared to it!!!!!!! But I’m getting off track: Despite how much he scared me as a kid, I’ve gained a massive appreciation/admiration in my later years. Like watching the Sorceress apprentice again, I get to see firsthand how beautiful his magic is, like when he makes that scary bat and turns it into a butterfly. It’s amazing. And he just has such a cool presence to him. Plus even after he looks furious at Mickey as he starts to walk away, you can very subtly see that Yen Sid can see the funny side of the situation despite all the damage Mickey caused. I haven’t played or shown that much interest in Kingdom of Hearts, but I’ll forever thank it for giving Yen Sid the voice of Corey Burton. And I suppose its wasn’t until Epic Mickey where we see him as an arist, possessing a magic brush and painting new worlds. In retrospective its funny that they would wait this long to make him an artist, since Yen Sid is Disney spelled backwards. Yen Sid is pretty much the alter Ego of the real life Walt Disney.

Science = Mr. Rzykruski from Frankenweenie:
Who else could I choose? I missed including him in my Zombie Apocalypse team (See here :pointr: oreopata.deviantart.com/art/My… ) But there was no one else I could personally have. Much of you know how much I adore this character. A great knowledge for science, friendly demeanour and eccentric outbursts. But all stemming from a great amount of passion for the subject he teaches, and great belief in the children he teaches and encouraging all the good that science and open mindedness can bring. It’s a shame the parents in the movie couldn’t see that.

P.E. = Po from Kung Fu Panda:
Now initially I could have chosen any character from the Kung Fu panda films. I could have easily chosen Tigress, Shen, Oogway or Shifu. But he more I thought about it, it seemed to make more sense for me to choose Po. After all from my past experience, P.E. Lessons can be very de-moralizing for many reasons. Mainly the teachers being harsh and also the body issues that comes into play. So I guess having a genuinely nice, physically fit and arse kicking teacher who isn’t much of a Slim Jim himself seems like a good idea to me.

History = The Doctor from Doctor Who:
Can’t get better than having a time traveller for a History teacher. Plus field trips in the TARDIS would be the best. Certainly get good exercise on these trips, as we likely end up running (key word being running) through steel corridors with Daleks, Weeping Angels and god knows what else up our arses!

English = Yahtzee from Zero Punctuation:
Anyone who has watched Zero Punctuation will know that Yahtzee defiantly has a way with words. God knows I wish I had his wit. Sure he talks at a million miles an hour, but I never miss a syllable. His use of metaphors and analogies are brilliant. Not to mention funny as hell. He can slag off anything I hold dear and I’ll still have a smile on my face. I often marathon reviews for the amount of joy they give me, even if I know sod-all about the game.

Geography = Indiana Jones:
I always had memories of Geography being boring as all hell even when it shouldn’t have been. I want to learn about the world, inside and out. So what better choice than an adventurer whose been around the world, inside and out.

Librarian = Twilight Sparkle from MLP: FiM:
I suppose it was a no brainer. She is obsessed with books, is OCD and lives in a library. Plus you all know how I love unicorns. Plus I was the librarian at my old school for a while, and I consider myself very much like Twi. But I do fear of how she would get if I returned a book in late…

I.T. = Wheatley from Portal 2:
I knew initially I wanted to have a robot for an I.T teacher. The trouble was choosing one. At first I was going to go for GLaDOS, but then that sounded like a nightmare to me. So I choose Wheatley cos he’s adorable (for the most part) and he does sound like a teacher. You can totally imagine him floating behind your shoulder giving advice. That and I’ll be grateful to have an I.T teacher that won’t turn out to be a Pedo. OhshitI’vesaidtoomuch…. But the way Wheatley talks kinda reminds me of Mr. O’Niel from Daria, doesn’t he?

Cookery = Remy from Ratatouille:
At first I wasn’t going to choose this, for fear of it being cliché or not personal. But then I thought, “A classroom of kids being taught by a rat is the coolest thing ever” You can totally see it, Cant you?

Music = Music Meister from Batman: the Brave and the Bold:
I was going to choose the Phantom of the Opera for his artistic merit. But then I figured eh Music Meister has much larger range and it seems knowledge of music than him. Trying out different styles and even clothes to show. Plus he’s played by Neil Patrick Harris, so that’s winning by default.

Film = James Rolfe of Cinemassacre.com:
I will admit I don’t watch very much AVGN. But I LOOOVE everything else on his site. His knowledge and passion for film is brilliant, I dare say Ive already learned a lot from him by watching his cinemassacre stuff.

Feel free to ask me questions if you aren’t sure. Bu I must ask you a question: Who would the teachers be in your have in your ideal school?
